New Students

Embarking on your yoga journey with us is an easy and enriching experience, suitable for anyone, regardless of prior knowledge or physical fitness. We welcome you just as you are, and our Basics classes will acquaint you with the core poses and principles of yoga. If you already have some yoga experience, you can jump right into our General classes. We also offer a Gentle Hatha class for a slower and more basic approach. Our supportive and experienced teachers are here to assist and guide you in the learning process, ensuring your yoga experience is a journey of discovery, not a goal to be met.

Useful Tips for Beginners and FAQ

  • You don’t need to know anything about yoga to start yoga
  • Come as you are, with an open mind and a good disposition and let yoga do the rest
  • You don’t need to be flexible or athletic or agile or strong either. But we assure you that these will develop with consistent practice
  • Listen to your body and work from where you are, not from where you think you should be
  • Let go of what you don’t understand right away, we learn through repetition
  • Be patient and trust the process. It usually takes a few classes to get into a rhythm
  • Teachers know to offer modifications if they see you are struggling

Please advise your teacher if you are pregnant. If you are brand new to yoga and would like to start attending classes please contact Isabelle isabelle@yyogaroseville.com.au to enquire about the best option for you.

For the most part, if a student had a regular yoga practice pre-pregnancy, she can continue to practice in the way she is accustomed to as long as she feels comfortable doing so.

Remember however that there are some general safety guidelines to adhere to and modify a practice for pregnancy as you go along.

Avoid eating a main meal before yoga. Your body will perform much better when it’s not busy digesting food and you’ll feel better for it. A light snack 1hr before is okay.

Then you should come!! Stiffness is no impediment to starting yoga and you’ll find that things improve progressively with regular practice.

The classes are not a workout and we trust that you’ll feel comfortable in any of the Basics ones to begin with.

Always check first with your health practitioner first, and then contact us. Yoga in and of itself IS therapeutic and can help to reduce the frequency and/or severity of unpleasant symptoms and painful conditions. Always discuss with your teacher first.

Certainly. Just contact Isabelle isabelle@yyoga.com.au to discuss.
