The teenage years are notoriously challenging for many young people and the rapid changes they go through physically and mentally can feel like a never ending roller coaster. Enter yoga to the rescue! Yoga is the perfect activity to take young people through these years of change with increased confidence, self-esteem and compassion because yoga is not a competitive practice. Yoga can gift teenagers with the ability to draw on their internal strength, intuition and strong sense of self to help manage the demands of school and everyday life.

Teenagers consistently report that yoga is a refreshing experience for them because of the different ways the body has to stretch, bend, twist, balance and turn upside down! They find it dynamic, fun and challenging in a lighthearted way. A big favourite is the opportunity to relax deeply at the end of the class, the perfect antidote for stressed, anxious and overstimulated minds. Many teenagers chose yoga as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.

What to expect

Each class will begin with breathing techniques and a fun theme that teens can relate to.

Learning a dynamic sequence of postures (asanas) that include hip openers, backbends and shoulder openers.

Poses to develop strength, flexibility, balance and coordination

Learn breathing and meditation techniques to assist in developing skills of mindfulness, focus, attention and reducing reactivity.

Teen yoga is a great way to de-stress and unwind – especially during busy and stressful times at school. The Friday evening class is particularly great to help you relax after a full-on week, in time for the weekend.
